Good Prattle is an interview website that conducts innovative interviews with intriguing people. We try to showcase intelligent cultural icons, mostly such creative types as actors and musicians and writers and others, in ways that address not only their work but their identities. We work to shed light on largely unknown figures that deserve the attention, and strive to cast well-known people in a new and often refreshing light as well. We are always open to featuring fascinating people, so who knows whom you might find featured on Good Prattle!

Rainy-Day Kate, whose real name is Keely Weiss, is a teenager from Brooklyn, NYC; she started Good Prattle in September 2007, when she was 14, and since then has run the website entirely on her own (occasionally manipulating her friends into transcribing for her). Now 17 years old, she is masterminding the launch of this website's print publication, Good Prattle magazine. Click on her name in the amusingly concise website masthead in order to visit her blog, which affords an awesome inside look at the work behind both the website and the magazine... as well as a mildly-more-irritating inside look at the way her train of thought operates on a daily basis.

WANT TO INTERN?

Wonderful! Do you live in New York City? Fantastic! Are you under 20 years old? Even better! Because we are a Brooklyn-based operation, we find it preferable that individuals interested in our unpaid internships be based in New York; because our entire staff is under 18, we would prefer to take on extremely hard-working and highly motivated teenagers. Good Prattle being an intensely small operation, interning with us is a far more involved process than the average internship: in addition to the routine research and transcribing, interns work alongside editorial staff and are expected to help place ads, compile content, arrange shoots and interviews, promote Good Prattle, and pitch in on a variety of other tasks. Hey--we never said it was light work!

HOW TO APPLY

Write us an email at editor@goodprattle.com with your full name and location and (if applicable) the school you attend, and be sure to attach the following items as separate documents:

Your resume. We know that as a teenager you probably haven't had years and years of work experience... that's all right. Include what you can. Editor of your school literary magazine? Short story writer in your spare time? Yeah!

A sample of your work. Again, we know that you might not have had the chance to do much, but we need to see something: send us the interview of your neighbor that made it into the school paper, some of your photography, or anything that showcases your skill and hard work.

Answers to the following questions:

• What is your favorite Good Prattle interview and why? You must have reasons beyond the identity of the subject.
• Pitch us a new editorial feature. Describe it. Why do you think this would be an appropriate regular feature for Good Prattle to run?
• What people living today would you interview if you had the chance and why?
• Take one of the people you mentioned for the last question and conduct an imaginary five-question interview with one of them. Be creative!
• What sorts of advertisements would you include in a Good Prattle publication or undertaking if you had free reign? Please don't say "none at all"; the thought is nice but not all our projects are as cheap to run as the website.
• How would you promote Good Prattle if it were your job exclusively to do so?

We want our readers to be involved with Good Prattle! If you're a journalist or writer of any kind, we hope to hear from you. Want to interview somebody awesome? Write an awesome reflection on--or an analysis of--modern culture? Send us a Cool Thing you've put together? Here's what you need to know.

What we're looking for: if it has to do with modern culture, you're already on the right track. We are primarily an interview website, so if there's someone you've interviewed or want to interview we'd love to hear about it, but we're also planning on expanding our content--so we would also welcome (e.g.) feminist analyses of recently-released video games; nostalgic reflections on the teen-movie genre; anthropological categorizations of the characters recently found in YA literature; awesome podcasts on the topic of your choosing; or whatever else you'd like.

How to pitch: simply email us at editor@goodprattle.com with your full name or an alias; a little information about yourself (either as a writer or as a general human being); and up to three article ideas. If the piece you are pitching has already been written, please include it; if not, just provide some samples of past writing. We look forward to hearing from you!
